This weekend holds for a number of celebrations for me and Stephen. Firstly and most importantly, it's his birthday and secondly a year to the date that we met and I wanted to make it special but without spending a fortune. Here's what I done.
Every week theirs updates on social media in someway or another of people posting photos or tweeting about their 'date night', it's your classic couple of cocktails on George Street, and maybe dinner if your lucky. But why don't more people celebrate these occasions out with the norm and do it without grudging the price of the more upmarket places in Edinburgh. We seemed to have done it, not intentionally but on a nice small budget. Not to mention chucking in a stay at an Edinburgh four star hotel.
1. MAKE IT ROMANTIC
Whether it's for an occasion, an overdue date night or just a break from your hectic week don't stop at just going out for the classic couple of cocktails and call it date night. Make the most of each others company and arrange something a bit more meaningful. There's hundreds of last minute sites were you can book a stay in a local, or not so local hotel for half the price. We managed to knock off over £200 from our hotel. The Ballantrae can charge up to £280pn but through booking.com we bargained a night for £68.
2. RESEARCH YOUR BARS AND RESTAURANTS
Make the most of your evening and do the research. Happy hour features in nearly every bar, along with an endless list of deals. Try different places, and boys. Don't drag your date (who will be wearing heels) along the street, until you stumble upon a bar that 'looks alright'. Research according to season eg if it's Summer find a bar with nice outdoor seating or in Winter somewhere romantic and candlelit.
3. make it special
Just because. Make it an occasion to get dressed up for, if your going to spend money on going to fancy places you may as well put the effort in and look the part. It also makes for a nice instagram post.
